You’re an Eggplant! :: Pregnancy at 6 Months

A fun post for Fun Friday! I was all prepared to join 5-Minute Friday with Lisa-Jo at The Gypsy Mama today, but she’s on vacation, which is great! So instead, here’s a update of my pregnancy at 6 months! I’m on two hands now, and our baby girl is the size of an eggplant! I can hardly believe it!

Here’s how this month has been:

How Big Baby Is Now:

Baby girl is about the size of an eggplant, weighs more than a pound and a half now, and is about nine inches long!

How Baby Has Changed:

Our baby girl is getting ready for those first breaths of life! Her lungs are developing rapidly and she is starting to plump up! Which means mommy is plumping up too! The hair on her head is starting to grow, if she’s going to have any at first, but looking at her mommy and daddy we expect she’ll have a lot. Those taste buds are also developing. Wonder if she can taste all that sugar mommy likes to eat? Let’s hope not! She has regular sleep cycles which I have been noticing lately by her movement patterns. This information comes from The Baby Center and The Mayo Clinic.

How Big Mommy is Now:

Well, I’ve officially gained all the weight I’m “supposed to gain”. I think the pictures are deceiving! So we’ll see what the next three months hold for me in weight gain. Hopefully baby girl is the only one who will be gaining weight from here on out. We want her strong and healthy, so I want her to gain all she needs to for good health!

How Mommy Feels:

Life’s getting a little different. I feel great, most of the time, but I can tell when something new is happening – even though I’m not aware of what that something new is. For instance, last week a little bit of nausea and light-headedness reappeared. Something inside was going on. This week I’m great again! Adjusting to a growing body is weird. It’s hard to get up off of the sofa now, and I can’t reach the sink faucet like I used to. My body has definitely taken over. I just oblige.

What Mommy Eats:

There are no weird cravings, and I eat what I would always eat. I went through another ravenous phase where I couldn’t get enough food, but that has passed again. It seems that everything is a cycle.

Our Doctor Visits:

At our last doctor’s visit I heard baby girl’s heartbeat again. I can’t get enough of it! I just love hearing it. It was beating in the 150′s. Everything is going as planned. The next appointment will be our last monthly appointment. Then we will start going every two weeks. At the next appointment I will have another ultrasound, bloodwork, and the dreaded glucose screening. No sugar before that test! We’ve got to pass!

The Birthing Plan:

We have completed our birthing classes. Now we just have to remember what we’ve learned! I am still planning a natural, water birth. Yes, it sounds as crazy to me as it does to you, but I’m excited about it and have loved learning about all the different birthing options. I wrote a guest post for The Humbled Homemaker entitled “Why I’m Planning a Natural Water Birth”. It will post next Thursday, July 19th.

Decorating the Nursery:

The nursery decorating has come to a stand still as we continue to finish painting furniture, organizing, and deciding what needs to go where. The glider chair we bought was delivered, so that is now in her nursery. I love sitting in there and imagining when she’s with us.

Daddy News:

This year not only is daddy gearing up for the upcoming UGA football season, but he is also gearing up for his baby girl’s debut! We realized that she is due the day before one of the biggest games of the season, the UGA/FL game, so we are hoping she is on time. It would be a fun and special memory to have her there, in the hospital, laying in her daddy’s arms wearing red and black, and watching their first football game together. I have never seen him so excited about anything before. Everyday he gets real close to my stomach and talks to our baby girl. He also loves to feel her move. She already has him wrapped around her finger!

Thoughts on Being a Mommy:

Being the thinker and a person who is notorious for excessive contemplation, I am constantly pushing thoughts around in my mind. A post I wrote this past week, Grace for My Unborn Baby, sums up my most recent thoughts.

For the next three months there’s lots to do! Find a pediatrician, write a birthing plan, finish the nursery, and have my first shower! Tons of fun to come!
